Discover who I am

I was born in North Philadelphia, orphaned at two years old, and raised on the hard streets of the “Badlands” of Philly. I’ve always known the addiction, homelessness, poverty, hopelessness, depression, and the desperation of being without family.

I came to Recovery over 22 years ago with all of the aforementioned sufferings, poor, homeless, and addicted.

One of the things I heard the loudest as a resident in a Christian recovery center was “help others” and I have been doing that for these 22 years. I graduated from the recovery program, worked for Wallingford Presbyterian Church while doing volunteer work at the recovery center for over eight years. I sat on the Advisory Board for the same Christian recovery center I graduated from for five years.  I also incorporated and founded a non-profit called “The Alumni Group (TAG)”. The group was mostly comprised of recovery graduates, who as alumni wanted to give back to hurting communities.

We did community services, like helping elderly, sick citizens, but because we saw the huge potential in mentoring, we mostly mentored men out of their vulnerability to the seductions that plague impoverished neighborhoods. My mantra has always been “Rescue a man and you rescue a family, rescue a family and you rescue a neighborhood”.

I worked for over twelve years at a Christian men’s program. San Jose CA as “Director of Rescue and Recovery” and this is my passion.  I supervised a 72 beds men’s recovery center, a 58 beds homeless shelter, and a feeding program that fed well over three hundred hot meals a day, and up to two thousand meals on some holidays. I’m still passionate about rescuing men, families, and neighborhoods.

I am an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (ICADC) and Licensed Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor-CA, (LAADC-CA).

When I’m not working I like to do photography, photo and video editing, and ride on my hybrid mountain bike on trails. I have retired from my position as Director of Rescue and Recovery. I volunteer in as many areas as I can, but my specialty is still recovery. I still coach people in recovery and out of codependency love ones of an addicted person. I am a follower of Christ Jesus.

“Charles is no rookie to recovery. His many years of addiction and subsequent decades as a counselor of those in recovery afford him the chops to relate to those who live in the fog of addiction.”

As we say in recovery:

The bad news is, we can’t heal ourselves.

The good news is that He can.

The question is, will we let Him?
